Economics and Management 2025-2026

The Master's Degree Course, located in the LM-56 degree class, has a duration of 2 years for full-time students (or 3 or 4 years for part-time students) and is divided into three different curricula for students to choose from.

Attendance is highly recommended, but no formal obligation is introduced for access to the examinations.

The curriculum in “Economics, Management and Institutions” envisages teaching exclusively in English and presupposes an adequate oral and written command of the English language on the part of the students, with acquired skills comparable to level B2. For the other curricula there is no compulsory language teaching, but it is possible to opt for the replacement of some courses in Italian with corresponding courses in English. To exercise this option, and for students interested in pursuing a Binational Degree, an adequate oral and written command of the English language is also required.
In each study curriculum, 10 CFUs are provided for the student's choice. The elective courses may be selected from all the courses offered at the University. It should be noted, however, that students are not allowed to select one or more courses with a similar name and syllabus to one of the degree courses already present in the study plan. Without prejudice to this clause, if the activities chosen by the student belong to the Department the plan is automatically approved, if they belong to other Departments they must be examined by the Course Council, which will check the adequate justifications provided by the student.

The syllabuses of the courses are defined by the lecturers in each academic year, indicating the learning objectives, the contents and the methods for testing knowledge.

The didactic regulations of the Social Work course define the contents of the teaching system and organisational aspects of the course of study, pursuant to provisions of art. 12 of the Ministerial Decree no. 270/2004. The didactic structure and organisation of the course are defined in compliance with the freedom of teaching, and the rights and duties of teachers and students.

Requirements for enrolment and issue of the nulla osta
The course is open access, subject to the issue of the nulla osta by the person delegated by the Study Course Council, Prof. Paolo Chirico (paolo.chirico@uniupo.it).

Enrolment requirements for students with a three-year degree obtained in an EU country
For admission to the Degree Course, students must hold a three-year degree in the following classes: L-15, L-16, L-18, L-33, L-36, L-41, or single-cycle master's degree LMG 01 or a four-year old equivalent degree.

For those holding a three-year degree obtained in Italy, or in another EU country, but belonging to degree classes other than those listed above, admission is subject to verification of individual study plans and examinations passed. In this case, a degree mark equal to or higher than 99/110 (or equivalent mark in the EU university system of origin) and the absence of educational debts in the fundamental subjects of the degree course (with particular reference to economics and quantitative studies) will be a preferential element. In the presence of educational debts in the fundamental subjects (absence of passed examinations in the economic and quantitative/statistical fields) the clearance will be issued, based on the affinity of the degree class and the specific course of study:

• in the case of a graduation mark of more than 99/110, against a supplementary study programme and/or the passing of a remedial test in the subjects with a training debt.
• in the case of a graduation mark of less than or equal to 99/110, against the passing of a remedial test in the fundamental subjects (with particular reference to economics and quantitative studies).

LANGUAGE SKILLS REQUIRED:

For students interested in enrolling in the ‘Management’ and ‘Economics’ curricula NOT OF A MOTHER ENGLISH LANGUAGE, oral and written language proficiency is required, with skills comparable to level B2 attested by certification or ascertainable by interview.

For students interested in enrolling in the ‘Economics, Management and Institutions’ curriculum (entirely in English) NOT OF A MOTHER ENGLISH LANGUAGE, oral and written language skills comparable to level B2 are required, which can be attested by certification or ascertained by interview.

Enrolment requirements for students with a bachelor's degree obtained outside the EU
The granting of the authorisation follows the same procedures as for students with a bachelor's degree obtained in an EU country, with the addition of a preliminary distance interview to verify skills in the core subjects of economics and statistics.

For the “Economics, Management and Institutions” curriculum (entirely in English), as an alternative to the interview, it is possible to present proof of passing the international “GMAT” exam with a minimum score of 550 points (please see procedures and costs). The test is now also available remotely in all countries of the world (and is therefore now accessible to all students in any country)

Students interested in enrolling in the ‘Management’ and ‘Economics’ curricula are required to have an oral and written command of the Italian language, with skills comparable to level B2 attestable through certification or ascertainable through an interview.

Students interested in enrolling in the ‘Economics, Management and Institutions’ curriculum (entirely in English) NOT OF A MOTHER ENGLISH LANGUAGE are required to have an oral and written command of the Italian language, with skills comparable to level B2, which can be attested by certification or ascertained by interview.  

ALL STUDENTS NOT RESIDENT OR DOMICILED IN ITALY MUST APPLY BY 16 SEPTEMBER 2024 THROUGH THE UNIVERISITALY PORTAL. ATTACHING THE REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS CERTIFYING THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE (In the absence of certification, it is compulsory to pass the test of knowledge of the Italian language (administered by the university) OR ENGLISH ACCORDING TO THE CURRICULUM ATTACHED.

How to apply for clearance

If you meet the above requirements, to obtain the clearance document you must send an e-mail request to Prof. Paolo Chirico (paolo.chirico@uniupo.it).

In the e-mail you must:

1) indicate your place and date of birth;

2) attach a pdf of the degree certificate or diploma supplement or self-certification with a list of examinations from the three-year degree course (in the case of students coming from UPO degree courses, it is sufficient to indicate the title and class of the three-year degree course of origin)

3) indicate which EMA study curriculum you intend to choose from the 3 available:

• Economics, Management and Institutions
