Degree course Economics, Management and Institutions (EMI 22/23)
Course tracks
This international Master’s degree takes 2 years (full-time) or 3-4 years (part-time) and is composed of four different track options, to be selected by the student:
- Management and Business Economics (LM–56)
- Management and Economics in organisations (LM–76)
- Economics and Public Policy (LM–56)
- Law, Economics and Institutions (LM–76)
Through the four different tracks, the degree course allows students to gain the analytical and problem-solving skills required by the various professional strategic and operational management roles offered in companies and business consulting firms (Management LM56); public organisations, non-profit organisations and research centres (Management LM76); international organisations, European and national government bodies, research centres and consultancy companies active in the field of interventions financed with public resources (Economia LM56); and in the context of national/international cooperative partnerships (Economics LM76).
The courses offered in the four programmes are in the fields of management (including pricing strategies and digital marketing), business organisation, business economics and management, statistical methods for economics, business choices and for evaluation public intervention programs, quantitative methods, economic theory, economic policy and applied economics (all accompanied by some specialized and professional teaching), as well as the study of labour law, European administrative law, economic history and European political institutions.
There are no prerequisites for the courses.
Course logistics
The course is held in the DiGSPES department premises (Palazzo Borsalino in Via Cavour 84, Alessandria).
The building, renovated at the beginning of the 2000s, has classrooms equipped with PCs, projectors and multimedia devices, study areas for students and 3 computer labs with about 90 PC workstations.
Tutoring and practical activities are envisaged.
The online teaching material and the possibility of communicating with teachers via email offers a constant update on each course, in order to allow "virtual participation" also to those who cannot attend in person.
The opportunity to work closely with the professors and researchers of the economic, managerial and quantitative areas of the Digspes Department, which also hosts international visiting professors - provides continuous stimuli for creativity and the desire to learn in a young, dynamic and strongly-oriented high-level research environment as evidenced by the regular staging of research seminars. EMI's vocation is strongly oriented towards internationalisation, with particular attention to the European Union.
Furthermore, the presence of international students in the classroom means that some second-year courses are held in English.
The course lasts two years, but those who work and have little time to study can opt for the "slower" path that lasts three or four years.
Course teachers
The lessons in the Economics, Management and Institutions programme are held by teachers who carry out research and professional activity of European importance in their respective disciplines.
This is evidenced by the network of international relations in which the degree program is inserted and by the internship opportunity at the European Commission (coordinator prof. Daniele Bondonio).
This feature of the degree course offers students the opportunity to acquire, through the teachers, numerous contacts and relationships useful for obtaining employment and professional opportunities of interest at national and European level.
The CVs and professional/research activity of the EMI teachers can be viewed on the relevant section of the UPOBOOK webpage.
