Degree curriculum in English: “Law Economics and Institutions -LEI” (Economics LM-76)

Within the Master in ECONOMICS, MANAGMENT AND INSTITUTIONS (EMI),  the degree curriculum in “Law, Economics and Institutions LEI” (Economics LM-76) offers all courses entirely in English. These courses (click here for a complete list) are suitable for students who want to operate in an international context and who prefer a solid interdisciplinary education in the field of economics. law and statistics. The degree curriculum LEI aims at training graduate students who will operate in European markets, institutions and organizations, by means of:

• Offering a rigorous graduate education in economics, statistics and law, suitable to operate in a dynamic and international context;
• Bringing out the ability of students to study, work and operate in English as a consolidated starting point for a professional career without borders;
• Promote the opportunity to experience a one-semester or one-year long study abroad period that enables students to obtain a binational master degree (i.e. one Master degree with legal value in Italy and a second one with legal value in another European country).

These features of the degree curriculum LEI allows students to achieve employment outcomes of great relevance, as in the following examples, related to the job placement of recent EMI graduates:

The most recent official data on job-placement outcomes and graduate-student satisfaction (source ALMALAUREA database) show that:

• 86.6% of EMI graduates declare that they were overall satisfied with the degree curriculum and 80% have graduated on time;
• 96.7% of graduates declare that they were satisfied with the quality of the teaching;
• 86.7% of graduates declare that the study load of the courses was adequate;
• 100% of graduates believe that the classrooms were  adequate and 86.6% express a positive opinion on the university libraries;
• three years after graduation, 100% of EMI graduates have an occupation, with an average time of 6.5 months between the start of the job search and the beginning of the employment spell. The average net monthly salary for the first employment spell of EMI graduates was € 1,422

Study abroad and binational degree opportunities

For the students who enroll in the LEI program (as for the students enrolled in the other degree curricula within the EMI Master program) it is possible to:

- obtain a double degree (with legal value in Italy and in a second European country –France, Switzerland, Finland or Czech Republic-) by means of spending one or two semesters of study abroad in the following partner European universities:

• Paris Nanterre (France)
• Rennes 1 (France)
• Tampere (Finland)
• Freiburg (Switzerland)
• Masarik of Brno (Czech Republic)

- carry out a semester of study abroad with the ERASMUS program, in the following countries: -France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Czech Republic, Poland, Finland

Mobility grants are available to cover the travel costs of students who participate in a study abroad program

Internship at the European Commission, Bruxelles

For selected students of the EMI Master degree (including those enrolled in the LEI degree curriculum) an internship opportunity is available at one Directorate General of the European Commission in Bruxelles. Participating in this internship represents for the students a unique and exceptionally important training opportunity (in Europe there are very few universities and degree curricula that have agreements of this type with the European Commission). In order to ensure to the best qualified students the opportunity to participate in the internship, the Department DIGPES organize a call for applications and a test to award mobility scholarships to cover the travel and living expenses related to the intership.

The 5 binational degree agreements, combined with the internship at the European Commission, are crucial factors in attracting students from all regions of Italy. Enrolled in EMI are also the international students of the four partner universities (Rennes 1, Tampere, Freiburg, Masarik of Brno) who spend a study abroad period in order to obtain their binational degree.

Admission Rules

In order to enroll in the English programme “Law, Economics and Institution” (Economics LM-76), a GMAT test (with a score equal or above 550 points) it is required for the international students holding an undergraduate degree from universities located outside the European Union.

For the International Students who graduated from an undergraduate degree and passed the GMAT test  (with a score >=550 points), the deadline to apply for enrolment is August 31, if they require the issuing of  a student VISA. Such an early deadline is required in order to properly enable the students to attend the classes at the start of each academic year (third week of September).

For the international students who hold undergraduate degrees in the fields of Administration and organization sciences,  Economics,  Political sciences and international relations, Economics and Business Management and Law, form Universities in the European Unions, admission is granted without the GMAT test requirement, provided that:

• during their undergraduate degree studies they passed at least one full course (mim. 60 hours of lessons) in the fields of economics and one in the fields of quantitative methods;
• they demonstrate and adequate English proficiency (min B2 level).
